The Pro-Relief golf model is essentially the basic model with a special tip designed to fit in the grommet hole below the umbrella slot in a golf bag.
Golfers experience sport specific injuries to their back, neck, shoulders and hips. Although the primary cause of most of the muscle problems and injuries to golfers is improper technique, the plane of a golf swing is also a major contributing factor. The address position alone puts strain on the lower back and pulls the shoulders forward into a hunched position that does not allow a full range of motion in the shoulder joint. The rotational action of a golf swing causes strain in the mid-back as well as the hips. Tight or strained hip flexors place undue stress on the hip joint. The gluteus (butt) muscles are also affected creating pressure on the sciatic nerve area.
The Pro-Relief instructional DVD for golfers will show you how to:
- Maintain and increase your range of motion
- Set your shoulders on plane with your torso for proper shoulder function
- Relieve sciatic nerve pain
- Relax your glutes, hip flexors and lower back to prevent injury
- Relieve tension in your neck and upper shoulders, eliminating stress and allowing unencumbered neurotransmission with the brain
Some thoughts regarding the mental side of the game:
Competitive golfers are intimately familiar with how stress can adversely affect their golf game. Very few, however, understand the physiology of what is actually happening. It is the mental side of competition that separates good from great. Sports psychologists are as common as trainers among elite athletes. Regular use of the Pro-Relief, including during competition can make mental conditioning much more effective. Regardless of what type of sports psychology you practice, communication between the brain and the muscles involved in the athletic movement is paramount. This neurotransmission is what coordinates the muscles to act in the proper sequence. The stress of competition causes tension in the muscles, particularly in the neck and shoulder region, which restricts this communication. A prime example of this is when you here of people being so “nervous” they could hardly take their club back to start their swing or putting stroke. Another example is when you here of a player being so “pumped up” coming down the stretch of an impending victory that he or she needed to go down a club or even two to keep from hitting the ball too far. When communication between the muscles and the brain is restricted by stress and/or tension, these kinds of things happen. This is why we encourage use of the Pro-Relief during competition. It is designed to fit into the umbrella slot of most golf bags, so put it there. Just a few minutes working on the tension can relieve it and allow unrestricted neurotransmission. See how it’s done on our golf DVD.
Tennis
The tennis model is the same as the base model with a shorter main shaft so it can fit in a tennis duffel bag. Aesthetically the neoprene will be chartreuse and the standard color will be grey. The hamstring attachment is also included.
Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis) is caused from the reactive forces from striking the tennis ball. Another upper body problem is in the shoulder area caused by improper overhead action in the serve. Muscles in the hip and side of the legs (Iliotibial band) as well as unusual fatigue in the front of the leg muscles (quadriceps) are associated with the muscles in the low-back, gluteus and hip. Other leg and foot problems such as Shin splints (caused by the pounding of constant abrupt stops and starts on hard surfaces or mechanical problems with the foot), Heal Spurs (Plantar fascitis) is caused by bad shoes, mechanical problems in the foot or muscles in the lower leg, calf area (specifically the soleus muscle) and foot (quadratus, flexor digitorum).
The Pro-Relief Tennis DVD will show you exactly how to relieve tennis elbow pain and plantar fascia pain. Continued use will relieve the pain completely allowing your full training regimen to resume. The muscles in your calf and foot play a huge role in any sport that requires quick stops and starts and powerful, brief acceleration. Agility and running speed can be compromised by trigger points and muscle pain in these areas as well, causing injuries to the ankles and leg muscles due to compensation. A compensatory change in your gait and running technique can also trigger back and hip problems that become chronic and require a re-learning of proper techniques.
Use your Pro-Relief during competition. Between sets, use it to relax your neck and shoulder muscles. To rejuvenate your legs, start at the calf area and learn to work the Gastroc and Soleus muscle. These muscles are the key muscles for maintaining proper circulation back up to your heart from your legs. Trigger points in this muscle can give you that “dead leg” feeling which not only effects how well you move around, but also the proper use of your base in hitting the ball.
Some general observations regarding Trigger Points:
Specific physical intervention is critical to relieving trigger points. Ice and heat do not deactivate them, nor does electro-stim, ultrasound or chiropractic adjustments. Relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation and biofeedback have no effect on them. Conventional stretching is not specific enough to affect trigger points and, more often than not, can make them worse as well as damage the connective tissue of the stretched muscle. Most therapeutic massage techniques, Shiatsu, Craniosacral, Deep Tissue/Sports Massage, Swedish, and even Myofascial Release are too broadly applied to have more than a superficial, temporary effect on trigger points. Even though some trigger points can be successfully located and therapeutic compression applied by another person, the most effective relief—other than, perhaps, trigger point injections by a physician—is self applied because only you can feel the immediate feedback and referred pain. The referred sensations emitted by a trigger point when therapeutic compression is applied are unmistakable. As pressure is maintained you can feel the trigger point release and the muscle loosen up. To fully relieve the trigger point, learn how to follow the muscle and referred pain pattern with the massage head. The Pro-Relief is the most effective tool available to assist with your self-applied trigger point therapy. It is essential to becoming “trigger point conscious”.

Remember…
Take the Pro-Relief with you…and leave your pain behind.
The vast majority of physical injuries incurred by active people begin with muscular injuries that are not addressed by the conventional medical approach to orthopedic care. Injuries of this type are generally too minor to warrant splinting, casting, or medication and often do not prevent participation in physical activities. They do, however, produce noticeable discomfort and, over time, frequently lead to more severe injuries.
